Just posted photos from the Grand Canyon

I joined a commercial rafting trip down the Grand Canyon during the second half of May –and besides having a great time and meeting a lot of great people, shot a zillion photos! I just posted 80 of the most useful Earth Science-related ones yesterday.

You can see them by going to the search and looking at the most recent images posted (the first 80 you see just by scrolling) or you can type (“Grand Canyon 2605” into the search.

Here’s some of the pics! It was somewhat mind-boggling how much geology I floated by!

Vulcan’s Forge, an eroded Pleistocene volcanic neck in the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park. Cliffs in the background consist of Cambrian Muav Limestone, Mississippian Redwall Limestone, and Pennsylvanian-Permian Supai Group (260622-63)

Great unconformity. Nonconformity between Cambrian Tapeats Sandstone overlying Proterozoic Basement rock. Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona (IP2605-2612)

Milky Way and cliffs of the Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona (260520-84)

And here’s to more frequently posting updates… my last update was in 2022?
